I thought Sterling did a wonderful job of presenting a balanced look at the band's history and why things turned out the way they did. I'm sorry he wasn't able to interview more of the band members, and update his interview with Tommy. It would have been interesting to see how Tommy's opinion of Dennis and JY changed after he returned to the band, and especially after he assumed creative control after Dennis left. But I can understand the "non-disparagement clause" that's apparently in the settlement agreement.
It didn't really surprise me to learn about Dennis's alleged mental problems, although it did make me a little more sympathetic toward him. What I'm not sympathetic about, though, is his apparent refusal to acknowledge his behavior (at least up until the past few years). Everyone made mistakes during that time, but I honestly believe that Dennis was at the root of all the trouble. Some people may disagree, but that's just my opinion.
What are y'all's thoughts?
